How to create a survey in NewZapp

Surveys are a new feature in NewZapp this year that let you build and fully customise surveys that you can send out and then track the responses.

To create a survey click the Surveys option at the top of the screen when you click Create & Send.

Surveys location

As with emails, landing pages and QR codes, the screen you are in will show you a list of all previously created surveys. If you want to create a new survey based on an existing survey that you’ve created previously, then you can by clicking the 3 dots on the right hand side and selecting Create Copy.

Otherwise, select the New Survey button at the top. You’ll be taken to a screen with some standard templates that have questions already set up, as well as an empty one. Select whichever template is best for your purposes to continue. For simplicity in this guide I have selected the Empty template.

You will be asked to create a name for the survey. This is the name that the survey will have in NewZapp, not the name of the survey that the participants will see, which we'll add shortly.

Survey name

You will now be in the Creation screen and you’ll be prompted to add a question. You can either click on the Add Question button, click on the 3 dots in that question to select one of the most common question types, or drag and drop an option from the left side of the screen.

Survey question select

Once you’ve selected an option you will be able to put a title on the survey which is what the participant will see. You will also be able to rename the Survey Page and description.

Survey title

To the right of the Survey Title is a button to add an image to the top of the screen. If you click this you’ll be asked to select an image saved on your computer rather than selecting an option from your NewZapp image library.

When you click into the question you’ll see options at the bottom of the box to make a copy of that question, to mark the question as required or to delete the question.

You will also have the option to change the type of question, and what input you’d like for that question type.

At the top of the question box are 6 dots and if you click and hold this you can drag this question and move to above or below other questions to change their order.

You will see that your survey is broken down into Pages. This is so you can break your survey down into multiple pages allowing your participant to flick through the pages rather than have all of the questions on one webpage. The bottom of the survey will always say the next Page followed, and Add Question, but if no question is set then this page won’t be on the survey.

Survey page 2

As with the email/landing page the best way to learn about the different options you have available to you is to play around with the different options and questions types available in this screen and see which ones work best for you and your needs.

On the right hand side of the screen there are general configuration options for your survey where you can apply a few different settings to your survey. If you want to look for a particular setting you can do so with the search bar at the top.

Surveys general settings

I recommend having a look through here and seeing the different options you have available to you and which ones you might like to apply to your surveys.

If you click on a question then the settings on the right will check to ones that apply specifically to the question (like additional questions appearing if certain answers are provided for example).

At any point you can see how your survey will appear to participants by clicking on the Preview button at the top of the screen.

Surveys preview

When in the preview screen you can answer the questions you’ve set in the survey and proceed though it as if you are a participant (don’t worry. Your answers aren’t recorded!). This allows you to make sure everything looks the way you want it to and the rules you’ve put in place are behaving the way you want them to.

If you decide that there are changes you would like to make to your survey then you can do so by clicking on the Designer button at the top of the page.
