How to personalise your subject line

In today’s crowded inbox, grabbing your reader’s attention is more challenging than ever. With countless emails competing for a moment of engagement, a generic subject line can get lost in the noise. But what if there was a simple way to make your emails stand out? Personalising the subject line—whether by using the recipient’s name, referencing their interests, or tailoring content to their preferences—can significantly boost open rates and foster stronger connections with your audience.

What is Personalisation in NewZapp?

In NewZapp you can use Merge Tags to personalise your emails. In a nutshell this comes down to entering some tags into a text box in your email and this will pull information from the contact card into your email.

For example if I put this in my email.

You can find out more about merge tags by clicking here.

Personalising the subject line

Once you've finished creating your email, click Next in the top-right corner of the screen to proceed to the sending wizard. The first screen here will be where you set the Subject line for your email and you'll see in the Subject line field that there is a personalise button.

In the window that opens you'll see the subject line at the top and beneath it are all of the merge tags split into different sections - Contact, Company, Address, Custom Fields. Simply click on one of those option to add it to the subject line. The tag will be added wherever your cursor is in your subject line.

Once you're happy, click apply subject.

Complete the rest of the steps to send the email, and it'll appear in your contacts inbox with that merge tag filled in.

As with merge tags in any text box in the email itself, if the data the tag wants isn't available from the Contact Card, your contact won't see the merge tag code, so you don't need to worry about that.
