How to personalise your subject line
In today’s crowded inbox, grabbing your reader’s attention is more challenging than ever. With countless emails competing for a moment of engagement, a generic subject line can get lost in the noise. But what if there was a simple way to make your emails stand out? Personalising the subject line—whether by using the recipient’s name, referencing their interests, or tailoring content to their preferences—can significantly boost open rates and foster stronger connections with your audience.
What is Personalisation in NewZapp?
In NewZapp you can use Merge Tags to personalise your emails. In a nutshell this comes down to entering some tags into a text box in your email and this will pull information from the contact card into your email.
For example if I put this in my email.
It will pull this information from my contact card.
So when I receive the email it will look like this

Personalising the subject line
When personalising the body text of an email we can use the Merge Tags drop down box to make sure that the spelling in the tag is correct, however when it comes to the subject line we don't have this luxury and have to manually type the merge tag.
This is easy enough to do by simply typing the merge tag you want to use with either @ symbols on either side or square brackets.
@firstname@ or [firstname] for example.
Its very important you get your spelling correct and don't add any spaces or the tag won't pull the data from the contact card. Below are two examples that won't work and so the email that's received will just show that tag to your contacts.
@first name@ or [fistname]
MAKE SURE YOUR EMAILS ARE PROOF READ BEFORE YOU SEND THEM! ANY ISSUES WITH THE TAGS WILL BE PICKED UP IN THE PROOF.
Below is an example of a subject line that I've manually added a merge tag .
This is then coming through to my inbox like this.
