How to edit images in NewZapp

Images are a great way to liven up your emails and make them more engaging to your readers, but what if the images you've uploaded need a bit of editing to make them just that little bit better? Luckily for you NewZapp has the tools to edit your emails within the email/landing page editor!

How to access the editor.

To access the editor you'll first need to load up the image you'd like to edit. Select an image block and you can either upload a brand new image from your computer, or you can choose an image you've used previously from your image library. For the sake of this article I'll be using a picture of a sloth that is available in our free image library. As you can see the image is enormous and needs editing.

Now that I have an image loaded, I can click on it access the editor by clicking on the magic wand that is now showing on the left-hand side of the screen.

Editing the image

You'll now be looking at a screen that looks like this.

You'll see along the top the different ways that you can edit an image for NewZapp. In this article I'll just go through the more commonly used editing options.

Resizing

Going into this screen will show you the pixel dimensions of your image at the top of the screen so you can manually adjust these. By default the Maintain Aspect Ratio option will be ticked. This means that if you adjust one dimension the other will also adjust so that the image remains sensible looking. If you would prefer, you can also alter the image by percentage. Maybe you'd like the image to be half as wide. You can do this by changing the 100 to 50.

It is worth noting that an email is 660 pixels wide. If you pick an image larger than that for your email, NewZapp will automatically resize it to fit the image block, however we don't recommend using any images above 720 pixels wide.

Once you're happy with the changes, click Apply in the top right corner to apply that change.

Cropping

Cropping an image is the process of removing unwanted outer areas to focus on a specific part of the image, or adjust the aspect ratio. By trimming away unnecessary or distracting elements, cropping helps you highlight the most important section of the image, making it more visually appealing or better suited for its intended use.

At the top of this screen you'll see several different aspect ratios you can crop to, with 16:9 selected by default. You can also ignore those entirely and manually drag the sliders on the image to decide what should be cropped out. Any area that is shaded will be cropped.

One you're done, click apply in the top right corner.

Change History and Layers

In the top right corner of the editor screen you'll see two icons for Change History and for Layers.

Image editor 6

Clicking on the clock will show you your change history in the bottom right corner. Here you can click on any of the items to revert the image back to just after that change was made, so you can go back to that stage if you need to.

Image editor 7

Clicking on the layers icon will show you the different layers that you've added to your image. You can select any of these items go back to the edit screen for this section.

Saving the image

Its worth noting at this point, that none of the changes you've made have been saved yet. To save the image click on the Save button in the top right corner. This will then add the image to your image library in NewZapp. The original, unedited version will also be there so you can go back to that if you need to.

Once the image has been saved you won't be able to revert back to any of the editing stages you were able to beforehand, so make sure you're happy with your image before you click save.
