Banner block or Image block?
So you're putting a new email together and you want to start strong with a header image at the top, however in NewZapp there are two ways to do that - with image block or a banner block. But which is better? Below I've explained the differences between the two to help you make that decision.
Image Block
OK let's start with the Image Block. This is one of the most commonly used blocks in NewZapp and you'll probably be familiar with how it works. When you drag the block into place, you'll see the image library open on the left hand side where you can upload your image.
You will need to upload your header image on the left like normal and this image will be stretched or shrunk to fit the block. You then have your usual options on the left to replace or edit the image, add padding, alternate text, and link it to a website or other piece of NewZapp content.
This will work as a header image as you can see below.
Banner Block
What makes a banner block different? For the sake of showing you, I'm using the same image for my banner block.
When I click the banner block the image library also opens on the lefthand side and when I select the NewZapp Communications image from my library, I now have different options on the left.
I can still set the alternate text and the link location, however I now have the additional options to apply a filter to the header and I can add an additional picture to sit on top of the header.
This is particularly is useful as I can then add the additional image of the person the email is from. In the example screenshot below I've added an image of NewZapp Staff Morale Officer Rosie which I can move anywhere I like throughout the banner.
Doing it this way means that when I make my next email by copying the previous email I can swap that image to be of a different staff member, without needing to create an entirely new image to upload as I would if I were using an Image Block.
I can even apply a filter to the header block if I want to, giving it a green tint to reflect that the email may be about NewZapp's environmental work (which if you're interested, you can find out more about here)
Banner Block or Image Block?
If you want to use the same header image every time then an image block will absolutely serve your purposes, however if you want the ability to customise the header image each time, then a Banner block might suit your purposes a bit better.
